How can that be? I caught them. Loveingly relocated them to their own spacious bath tub in the vegetable garden. Why have they made their way back around the house to the pond? It’s a conspiracy. Maybe it’s the plague? Maybe it is because we’ve been doing this for 2 weeks.
Rain, with all the croaking, hail, sleet and occassional sunshine I expect to see some tad poles this spring.
Here is another rain photo. This is what happens when you have too much rain.
Finally, this is what happend when the birds have to resort to spending too much time at the water logged bird feeder.

The culpret is nowhere to be found today. I’m sure she is hiding.

What about this weather? Geez, rain, hail, sleet, sunshine and it starts all over again. I’ve never understood people who live here that say they want to move someplace where there are seasons. We have seasons….sun, rain, hail and wind. There you go, four seasons.
But really, I do see differences in the seasons. Winter is, well, just plain yucky. Lots of rain, falling redwood branches, slippery roads that the CHP calls road snot and the requirement to s l o w down and use caution. Why do we need all this rain? I tell my kids it takes alot of rain to water this forest. Think about how much a 300+ redwood tree drinks.
Spring brings wind, really weird actually. I can stand in my driveway and feel the warm wind in my face. The other great thing about Spring is the squirrels get ‘frisky’ and chase each other running from branch to branch through the big redwood trees. Also in spring the swallows return to make their nests in our nesting boxes. They dip and dive as they catch mosquitos. The swallow boxes are on the garden side of the house, they catch all those nasty flying insects that attack my vegetable garden.
Summer is, for those who live in town, fog. Fortunately for us, we live in a sub-climate and usually get sun by 10 am. There are days, really there are, when we get up to 80+ degrees. It is then I like to sit on the front deck and just soak in the sunshine.
Finally Fall is, and has always been, my favorite. It is true we do not have falling leaves but that warm breeze we had in the Spring comes back. What we do have that falls if pinecones. Those frisky squirrels mentioned above now run all through the tree tops and ‘cut’ redwood cones. They drop to the ground and sound like mini muffled splats. I love to stand in the forest and look up to watch the squirrels. The tough part is dodging the falling cones. Picture this, the dog laying in the backyard, snoozing. Splat goes a cone, splat, splat, splat go three more. She jumps up, paranoid that she is missing something. Ambles into the forest and splat, here comes another one. Being the brave yard protector that she is, she runs back to the house.
So you see, we do have 4 seasons here. You just have to adjust your concept of what the word ’season’ really means.
