Wool & Angel Flights

Posted in Redwood Living at 10:53 am by Lynette

Which one of the following is not true?

Parenting isn’t easy.

Once a parent always a parent.

One size fits all.

Wool is itchy.

Actually all are true to some extent.  It is true, parenting isn’t easy.  But it is one of the most rewarding ‘jobs’ I’ve had and it makes me smile to remember my children as babies.

Once a parent, always a parent.  It is true, just because you children are grown, moved away they are still your children and you are still their parent.  Even for me, with a 83 year old Mother, she is still my parent and I am still her child.

One size fits all?  Sure if it is a 6XL!

Wool is itchy.  I used to think this was true.  I used to think I was allergic to wool.  Some wool is itchy, the really really BAD stuff that is swept up off the shearing floor and made into ‘moc’ cashmere sweaters.  Good quality wool is wonderful, warm and a joy to wear.  Allergic, no I’m not allergic but I cannot get Angora near my eyes, they will swell shut.  Not only is that very  unattractive but it makes knitting difficult.

I think this ‘itchy wool’ idea was a really good marketing stradagedy during the 60’s convincing all of us hippie wanna bes that cotton was the way to go.  Then in the 70’s when the polyester thing was in full swing most of us abandonded natural fibers.  Remeber Kiana shirts?  Angel Flight pants….oh boy, put John Travolta in tight Angle Flight pants….be still my aged heart!

Sorry, I’ve regained control  of myself….back to the subject…. Since I’ve been knitting in my adult life, I admit I’ve become a wool snob.  Rarely do I knit with anything other than wool.  But I found this yarn, it is Rayon with some glitz from Blue Heron Yarns, (Rayon/Metallic 550 yards “Old Gold”) Just holding it in a skein tells me I will love the way it will drape and fold.  I like the feel against my skin.  Thinking back I used to wear a lot of Rayon in the 70’s and 80’s.  Perhaps in memory of those times or just because; I purchased this stunning yarn in December as a ‘gift’ to me.  It cost ALOT and I’ve kept it in my cupboard just to look at.  But I’ve grown tired of  looking at it and showing it off and feeling it.  It is time to knit.  So I’ve dug in my modest knitting book library looking for something.  This is one case where one size will not fit all.  I want to feel comfortable enough in it to wear every day.  Yet it must be sturdy and encourage the texture of the yarn.  I’m still looking, maybe I’ll just hold on to the for a while longer.

House update….The sun was shining and the painters showed up.  They got the primer on the exterior of the house when, be still my heart, here comes the septic guy driving down our road in his big sexytractor.  I don’t know if I can stand the excitement.  Painters and the septic guy in one day.  It did get a bit uncomfortable for me because I am ’confrontation challanged’ and I had  to watch these two guys in a pissing one-up-man-ship contest.

Painter:   I’m going to finish painting tomorrow

Septic: No you’re not it is going to be cloudy.

Painter:  Yes I can, as long as it is 50 degrees it will be fine.

Septic: Well, I’m going to mix my cement here.

Painter:  No you’re not, I’m going to be painting here.

Around and around they went….finally I said “I don’t care who does what as long as you both do it tomorrow!” and I turned and walked away.  Money talks….everything else walks.  Just be sure you don’t step in the septic sludge.

We’re live.  Thanks go out the incredible  ’Dale The Wonder Guy’ for all his hard work and patience while teaching me ’stuff’.  The Web store is up and running.  So, if you’ve got a few minutes, drop by Connected by a Thread and check us out.

There is a ‘Meet Us’ page where you can learn more than you would ever want to know about Linda and I.  There is also a calendar page that shows where we will be vending.  Just click on any image/description to go directly to that item’s catalog or choose the link on the top that says catalog.

The hold up was we were waiting for Pay Pal to authorize our ‘virtual’ terminal but we now can take credit cards, charge your pay pal account directly or take cash and checks.

Shipping, at this point is $2.5 per item but is less if you order more than one item.  We are still waiting on USPS to set up the shipping module.  So don’t worry, if you purchase items and the shipping is tooooo much, I’ll correct it by refunding to your paypal account.  Finally, we carry the complete line of Ashford spinning and weaving products.  Other than a small handling fee the shipping is free.

So grab a cup, put your feet up and we hope to see you soon!
