Money Talks

Posted in Knitting, Redwood Living at 6:28 am by Lynette

Will wonders never cease?  The road gravel was delivered yesterday and dropped in the front of the house.  We have terminal pot holes on our road and now that the major winter rains are over (we’ll still have spring rain, summer rain, late summer rain and fall rain) it is time to fill those pot holes.  My little Toyota Yaris bottoms out in a couple of them.  They are deep enough to swallow a small dog, you get the picture.  Plus I thought it might be a turn off to have 10 Realtors coming down out road to tour the house tomorrow and get stuck in a hole.

Filling these pot holes is on the ‘chores’ list I mentioned yesterday.  It is something that takes alot of stamina, which I don’t have much of, and dedication.  It is such a pain in the ass so much fun that my husband has opted to work overtime, that is 16 hours straight on 5 hours sleep.

So I bribedmotivated the kids with the idea that they could drive the quad up and down the road and, oh by the way, take along the trailer with some road mix.  I figured they would be good for about 1/2 hour.  They don’t need constant supervision but if they are outside working and I’m inside knitting, I’m not being the good role model they need to stick to it.  So I was in the garden planting lettuce, potatoes, walla walla onions, garlic, sunflowers and broccoli.  Next thing I know I hear another voice, look up and see….who is that?  Apparently a friend of DJ’s from school rode his bike over.  First off, this has never happened before and secondly, I have no idea who this kid is.  But he is a great motivator, they spend 3 hours on the gravel.

While they were doing that, one of our neighbors, the guy who burns his plastic trash every day, just sat on his deck and watched.  Jerk.  He has never lifted a finger to shovel gravel, pay for gravel or drive his big honken truck around the pot holes.  The other neighbor paid them $20 for filling the holes in front of his house.  What a nice guy, or maybe he is trying to avoid filling the pot holes like my husband but taking the monetary route instead of the overtime route.

Knitting Update

Today is the Webfoot Weavers monthly meeting.  We meet in a local bank, share what we’ve done, spend 2 hours on mind numbing business and have a class/lesson.  I was going to stay for the class today, I really was.  Unfortunately it is spring break and I have to pay for the kids to be in latch key.  So it will be a quick trip up to Brookings for me.

As far as the pouches go…they are holding yarn and a pattern for fingerless gloves.  The yarn will be Llama/Wool and the pattern is one I’ve written.  It is an easy pattern that can be dressed up with cables or beads for a beautiful, lightweight pair of summer gloves.  They will be up on the  Connected by a Thread  web store tomorrow.

Have a great day and if you have some time, stop by to fill some pot holes, maybe you’ll make a couple bucks.

Mystery Pouches

Posted in Redwood Living at 8:41 am by Lynette

It’s spring break here on the Pacific Northwest Coast.  The kids are home and I’ve made the list of ‘chores’ for them to earn $$’s.  Never mind the chore list includes mostly things I don’t want to do like…

1.  Mow all the lawns (Linda, I need to rent a sheep!)

2.  Bag up the recyling (I would think this one would be a winner because they get to keep whatever $$’s paid for the recycling…believe you me, there is alot.)

3.  Wash Windows (Again, pretty easy, I pay $2 per window, any takers?)

4.  Power Wash the Greenhouse (What could be more fun than using a gas powered machine that shoots out a powerful stream of water when the outside temperature is about 40 degrees?)

5.  Use the quad and trailer and fill potholes on the road.  (A thankless job, we’ve lived here 17 years and have neighbors who have NEVER lifted a finger to fill pot holes.  But why should they, we always do it, right?)

6.  Leave Mom alone.  They are failing miserably on this one.

Knitting Update

I’ve been busy, using the LeGare to make unique and just plain weird things.  Any guesses that these could be?

Pouches for the Fingerless glove kits.

Last night while finishing them up and drinking a beer I had all 6 lined up on the couch next to me and got the giggles, (I’m sure the beer helped in this).  Would anyone be able to guess what they are?

They will be listed in the Web Store tomorrow so stay tuned for more information.
