Work, Work, Work
Our weekends are filled with the usual non-work day chores. Laundry, grocery shopping, TV watching. But Sunday’s are spent up at our new homesite clearing, chain-sawing, hauling and walking up and down hills.
It was foggy Sunday, as you can see. But loads of progress was made yesterday with the homesite cut into the hill and leveled off, Piles of tree limbs from the previous logging burned and made ready to clear for my garden. The road is cut in and the path down to the garden site is roughed in. Yesterday the kids and I planted 35 lbs of tall fescue grass seed on the hill above where the home will go to try to stabilize it from the rains that are here this week. KT also donated a pound of wildflower seeds sown with her usual random act. (grin) Add to that some lavender, butterfly bushes and the beginnings of heather and it will be very nice, if it roots and doesn’t wash away!
Saturday we took down the greenhouse cover. I have a greenhouse from Farm Tek. I’ve had this one up for 6 years. I love it! It has withstood wind storms in excess of 65 MPH and grown many a lettuce, tomato, pepper crop. We’re taking it with us. While turning over the railroad ties that we use to anchor the sides down I found this.
This little toad was snuggled up inside his hole with lots of bugs to eat.
He was moved to the pond along with 7 salamanders of various sizes. We found many slugs that, I admit, went to the big slug heaven in the sky.
So all in all we had a VERY productive weekend. I am a bit sore today. Not my back, arms or hands but the ankle muscles on the top of my feet from walking up and down those hills.
I’m gonna have very tone calves in a few months from all this up and down walking.
