I admit it, I do feel defeated. I’ll also admit, this is a whine day. I went to the Dr. yesterday to get a refill on an expired prescription. On the way there I started thinking about how lousy I was feeling. As Mom’s we tend to discount our illness, saying I’m just tired from the play, running around, doing Mom stuff and knitting socks like crazy. But last week I had the overwhelming feeling that we should not go to Sun River to vend at the Traditions festival. Yes, I reserved the condo 1 year in advance. Yes I paid my portion of vending fees. But my inventory of pre made socks had not been replaced since I was in Sisters. Mostly because I have not been feeling well. This past weekend the Grand daughter spent 48 hours in the hospital getting IV antibiotics. That reinforced my choice to cancel the trip.
Anyway, on the way to the Dr’s office I took inventory and realized I really did not feel good. I was right. My blood pressure was dangerously high. 162/118. This is very abnormal for me. Plus my lungs sounded, and I quote “really bad”. One EKG later, a huge shot of antibiotic, 3 prescriptions (not the one I originally went to get a refill!) and some trial blood pressure meds, I was on the way home. Diagnosis? Pleurisy. I’ve had this before and the guess was the several rounds of Leviquin were keeping it at bay. The fact that I’m now on Prednisone, antibiotics, blood pressure meds and a very strong cough medicine to help rid my lungs of the gunk is another confirmation that it was a good idea to cancel the trip. The good news is the Prednisone makes me really hyper. I should get loads of socks knit!
Is it too much to ask to just feel well? For 4 months I’ve felt like sh*t. I just want to be able to enjoy the Holidays. Tell me, is it too much to ask?

First: This weekend is our first Thanksgiving. The dd, sil and gd will be coming up to visit for a couple of days and we’ll do Thanksgiving #1.

I have only 13 spots left for socks to be delivered by 12/22. If you were thinking about giving handmade socks for the holidays, now is the time to email me.

Here is the latest kitty picture. Yes, they still sleep as Ying and Yang and try to fit on the same shelf but they are more and more irritating as they can now jump without help onto all our surfaces. It is time to get out that squirt gun.
Next:
The DH took today off to Elk Hunt. Why is it that when it is not the season you see all kinds of elk, now that is it Elk season there are no where to be found.
Next:
Thanksgiving #2 will be actually on The day. There will be 13 of us and hopefully we’ll have elk.
Next:
The son has a wonderful opportunity to go with his 8th grade class to D.C. this summer. The cost is $1,500 and he is looking for things to do to earn money. I’m not telling him but we would pay the whole amount just so he can take advantage of this opportunity. I think he’ll enjoy himself more if he earns some of the money though.
Finally:
Such a delima. Do I not go to Sun River and vend for the Traditions Fair with not alot of inventory or stay home, knit socks like crazy and put them up on ETSY page? I’ve already paid for the spot but I have friends who would be happy to take my space over as theirs. I guess I need to write down all the options on paper and make the decision today.

Opening night was a huge success for our Harbor Performing Arts Children’s Theater. The production of Beauty and the Beast has been in the planning stages for over a year and last night was the big one.
Other than a few minor costume malfunctions and the Beast sliding across the stage and falling on slick boots, it went off well. The audience was enthuisatic and seemed to leave happy.
The following pictures were taken at dress rehearsal without all the costumes but you will get the idea.
Our Belle is Katie Graves from Crescent City. She has a beautifully clear voice that gives you tingles.
Gaston is played by Ian and he has really taken to the part. He playes arrogant really well!
The whole cast for Be our Guest. About 50 cast members means alot of juggling and costume changes. The parents have really pitched in and helped. The director, Dori, has a way with kids I cannot believe. They all admire her and basically do whatever she says.

I’ve really enjoyed being involved with this group. I tried getting in with the costume department in our former town but they were a closed bunch that even though said they wanted help really didn’t.
So if you’ve in town, stop by and share a great production. It runs this weekend and next weekend.

This is the yell you can hear this time of year. The Smith River is jumping, literally, with Salmon. The son has always enjoyed fishing and he seems to have fallen (no pun intended) into a relationship with a young woman who’s dad is a retired fisherman. I’m not sure weather he likes the girl better or her dad!
They go out every day and it has gotten to the point where they catch and release because everyone’s freezer is full of salmon.
Here is the Eye Candy picture for today, the biggest one yet. We’re smoking it next weekend. Won’t the neighbors love smelling that?
The white dots are rain. One benefit of living through 5 inches of rain in 3 days is the Salmon are running up river to spawn.
For those of you who know my family personally, yes, this is the oldest boy…6′1″ and all growed up!

I’d like to introduce you to (if you havent already discovered) one of my favorite websites, Etsy. Etsy is, as they put it, “your place to buy and sell all things homemade.” Pretty self explainatory, isnt it? Etsy has TONS of beautiful things to buy that people like you and me have lovingly created. You can find everything from handmade socks to hand crocheted bath and baby items to handmade jewelery to handmade pottery and even non handmade items like vintage fabrics, magazines, etc etc. Basically, Etsy is everything anti-corporate and anti-cookiecutter. Last year at Christmas I made the pledge to buy handmade, and I’m going to do the same this year.
While I wasn’t able to make everything at Christmas last year handmade, I made sure a portion of my gifts were. This year, I fully intend on making sure there are even more handmade gifts given from me at Christmas. Basically folks, this is what it boils down to… here in America we’ve become rabid consumerists. We always want the biggest and the best and the shiniest and the newest. Christmas time has become this forced holiday with little meaning anymore. It isnt even Thanksgiving and the stores are out with Christmas products, commercials on the television are already speaking about Christmas gifts and we’re already being bombarded with pressure to buy.
This year, instead of purchasing a meaningless gift from some random big box store- why not go to Etsy and purchase a handmade item that you know a loved one would truely enjoy? Instead of supporting greedy coorporate America, why not support the stay at home mom who knits sweaters in her spare time? Or the art student who is talented at making jewelry? Etsy even has a function where you can find Etsy sellers in your area- so not only can you support these incredible folks here who make beautiful objects- but you can support those who are local to you. You’ll be giving a gift that was crafted by someone who cares, not pressed out by some machine- or worse yet, made by little kids in some third world country.
In years past I’ve made friends knitted scarves and socks, and a variety of other things. There is just something more special about presenting a gift that you had to think about and create yourself than just going and buying something from any old big box store. So please, this year if you can- make some handmade gifts to give to your loved ones… and if you don’t feel you’re talented enough to do so- join Etsy and purchase a handmade gift from there. Support the Christmas spirit, which should be more about closeness and sharing with those we love than about the gross consumerism which has almost destroyed the Christmas magic.
And that’s all I have to say about that!

Here is what my DailyOM says. I love these emails I get every day. I’m not saying I really believe in horoscopes but you know what? They are right for my day 80% of the time. After reading scroll down and you’ll see why I’m saying today’s entry is just freaky!
A desire to step back and observe your environment may have you feeling watchful today. Often when we spend a lot of time in an environment such as home, office, or some other familiar place, we may not see all the details that a newcomer might notice. Today allow yourself to follow your desire to gain new perspective, and use your discernment to make improvements in your life.
So, I can apply the above one of two ways. One, my house needs cleaning. Two, my hillside is sliding. In my defense, I am fighting a nasty bug. In fact I went to Urgent Care yesterday and had a chest X-Ray to be sure I wasn’t getting pnemonia. So my house is ‘less than clean’. Speaking of cleaning a house, we’ve become addicted to a program on BBC America called How Clean is Your House? Needless to say, I would not qualify to be on this show!

I know baseball is over. I sure did miss all the entertainment we used to have when watching a Little League game.
This post has nothing to do with baseball.
I has to do with the bank behind our house.
Oops!
We seem to have developed a small displacement. I’ve told our neighbors that we will be aquiring some new top soil soon. They said, “where would you like it delivered?” Hopefully it will stay on that level and not become part of the drive way. Check back for updates!
