I am beat.  An afternoon and night at the Relay For Life, a whole day demonstrating at the Curry County Fair…I’m bushed.

Thanks to all of you who donated to my Relay fund.  I made $380.  It did fall short of my goal for $500 but that is OK.  Next year I’ll get started earlier.

So, do you want to know who won?

First, here is a scan of all the entries…

Sorry for the lousy scan.  I am so bummed.  I did get my Minolta camera back in the mail on Friday.  Yippee….I can start posting pictures again.  After opening the box, and seeing the camera still in parts, I read the enclosed note.  We cannot fix your camera due to the fact there are no parts available.  WHAT?  This camera is only 2 years old.  I paid A LOT for it.  After the initial pissed reaction ebbed, the depression set in.

Sorry for digressing…..So, above are those who donated and are entered in the drawing.

And the winner is….

Simone K.  Are you out there?  Please contact me joylyn@charter.net and I’ll get your size and color request.

Thanks again to all who donated, it was a lot of fun receiving the emails and ‘getting to know’ y’all.

I never knew how much I’d miss my digital camera.  I was reluctant to purchase one a couple of years ago because I thought it was just an over priced toy.  But since I’ve been without it for about 6 weeks, It’s driving me crazy.  My front garden has never looked so good.  That 80+ inches of rain we had this winter did wonders.  And the kitchen garden.  Wow!  New raised beds filled with composted soil….I wish I could show you.  Sigh….

I knit up a pair of socks from the yarn I dyed on Sunday they look like this.  Because of the bounty in my garden I’m naming all the yarns I put up on

Fernwood Woolworks with food names.

But I was stumped with a name for these.  So I took this pair to the Miss Del Norte practice last night and the general consensus was

SALAD

So Fresh Salad it is.  These will be put up on ETSY today.  The yarns I hand dye are $12 per skein plus shipping and the socks made from my hand dyed are $16.  All other socks are $18.

Katie’s tooth extraction went very well yesterday.  She developed an abscess over one of her 11 year old molars a few months ago.  Since she is only 8 I thought with the meds she would heal fine but I guess not.  We decided to take the tooth out and wait for the adult tooth to come in.  Kids are so honest.  As I said before, she did really good until it came to the pulling part then she yelled….OUCH!  Most adults would just sit there and bear it but not her… another OUCH later and it was out.  She got this real cool tooth box and a sticker on her shirt that said Be Careful.  By last evening the was running around doing great.  I can only hope my wisdom tooth extraction will go as smoothly.

Today I’m doing some more socks, I’m getting ready to demo at the Curry County Fair on Saturday.  If you’re in the area, stop by and see me and my friend Linda.  We’ll be demo-ing and selling our items with a few other folks showing how we get from animals to clothing.  Should be fun.

What are the signs of being ‘Dyed Out’?  First is a black finger where my latex glove broke.  I didn’t realize until after I was done space dying 7 skeins of yarn.  I took the glove off and wal-la, black finger.  Very attractive if I do say so myself.

Second sign of being ‘Dyed Out’.  Sore feet and back.  I spent the afternoon standing on the cement slab in the laundry room.  Next time I’ll sit.

Third sign of being ‘Dyed Out’.  7 skein of yarn handing in the sunroom.  They look like a jumbled mess but hopefully will dry today so I can put them up for sale on Fernwood Woolworks.

But I did  get 3 new posted for sale.  They are space dyed and I’ve included a knitted sleeve so you can actually see what they yarn will knit up like.  That is one of my pet peeves.  You see this beautiful skein of yarn, hand paint, dyed and think aren’t those beautiful colors.  But you really don’t know what it will look like when knit.  We’ll, any yarn I put up on my for sale site will have a knit sleeve so you can see the patterning.

Amazingly enough the sun is shining here at the Haven of Bliss.  I guess that means yard work, laundry, cleaning.  I better get busy.

This is the last week for donations to the Relay For Life this year. As an incentive for your donation of $10, you will get your name entered in a drawing.  I will pull one name and they will receive two pairs of socks knitted on my Legare 47 sock machine. That is for each $10 donation to the Amercian Cancer Society on my Personal Donation Page you will receive one entry, donate $20 you get two chances etc.

I will knit your socks specific to your shoe size and color using my Opal yarns.  I will pay for shipping to you.  Such a deal.  Currently I only have 14 entries so your odds are pretty good.

Let’s sock it to cancer.

Today I’m dying yarn to put up on my Fernwood Woolworks   site.

If you’ve not visited, it is an interesting site.  Their approach Internet sales is from a different view, literally.  Only hand made items are sold on ETSY.  But the most interesting search option is by color.  You choose a color and it will show what is listed, I mean everything in that color that is listed for sale.  It is an amazing idea and kind of fun to play with.  You can also search by what is the most recently posted items.  So stop by to visit and have a nice Sunday.

We picked up the Toyota Yaris last night and drove the 78 miles home.  We got here around 9 p.m.   This little car drives great.  It corners like a dream, actually a FAST dream, and it only used 2 gallons gas to drive home.  It is a sweet ride and I am psyched!

I just put more socks on my ETSY Sales Site

I also put up some hand paint, space dyed yarns.  They come in skeins of 350 yards.  More than enough to make any size socks.  My Circular Sock Machine loves this yarn.  It is smooth and makes a really unique pair of socks.

I’m on my way to Brookings to Demo the sock machine at the Kite Festival.  I’ll be on the Mini-Mall patio.  Fell free to stop by and say Hey!  Have a great weekend.

Just one week to go until Relay For Life, if you are interested in receiving a chance to win 2 pair hand crafted socks you may go to My Personal Donation Page.  I currently have 14 people entered in the drawing so your odds are very good.  Thank you in advance.

Thanks to Scout at Scout’s Knitted Swag for directing me to Etsy.  I will be setting up a temporary  Internet sales site on Etsy for my hand paint, space dyed self striping yarn.  This yarn is 4 ply superwash Merino Wool with a bit of Nylon for wear.  It is perfect for socks both hand knit and knit on a Circular Sock Machine.  Go to Fernwood Woolworks to see what I have for sale.  More to come over the weekend.

The Etsy site will be replaced by my permanent home, Connected By A Thread.  A good friend Linda and fellow Fiber -A-Holic and I will be placing our products on there. I’ll post THAT site when it is complete.

A short post today because I’m on my way to purchase my new car.  The DH King is in need of a new vehicle so I’ve decided to be the one to step up and sacrifice my Dodge Dakota for this….

A Toyata Yaris.  It tough but some times you have to ‘take one’ for the family!

Just a reminder about donating to Relay For Life.   Visit my Personal Donation Page.  For each $10 you donate, you receive your name in a drawing for 2 pair custom knit socks made to your shoe size.  Thanks in advance and…..let’s sock it to cancer!

What is this?  This is my space dying board.  I’ve been spending the last couple of nights winding yarn for my Sunday Dye A Throng.  I plan on dying 12 skeins of yarn and I’m actually going to keep track of what I will be doing so I can reproduce it!  What a novel thought.

I will confess this is an old picture of the board.  I’ve had to replace the golf Tees with doweling.  The tees would not hold up to all the yarn overs.

I decided upon my recipe for winding the yarn and it is….8 rounds, 3 rounds, 5 rounds and 3 rounds; then back to the beginning.  I will dye the 8’s in a solid color, the 3’s in a darker colors and the 5’s in a dot combination of 2 or 3 colors.  I’ll post a picture when it is done.  Now all I have to do is decide upon colors.

And here I am in my ’studio’.  Notice the ‘ ‘ around studio.  Actually it is the laundry room with this yucky paneling but I’ve taken one corner for my stuff.  Now that I’ve purchased another Legare I’ll have to expand.

What you can’t see is the dying area.  I’ve set up a table, old mini fridge to store the dyes and a large camp stove to cook everything.  That way I can continue making socks while watching the pot boil.

The next event I will be demo-ing at is the Art Festival in Harbor Oregon.  I want to have 60 pairs of socks completed and I am 3/4 of the way there.  If need be I can pull some out of the booth which is adjacent to where the festival will be.

I’m hot, sticky and heading off to the shower.  Thanks to Wendy J. Jan H. and Sarah T for your donations to relay.  I appreciate it and you!

Thank you Jackie W., Riko F., and Linda S, Theresa W. for your donations to my Relay For Life Fund.  I’ve put your names in the pot for the drawing for 2 pair custom knit socks.  To date I’ve raised $130.  Thank you to all of you who’ve donated, you rock!

If you would like to donate $10 and receive a chance to win 2 pair custom knit socks you may go to my Personal Donation Page.  These socks are a $40 value and I will make them custom to your shoe size and color request.  Let’s Sock it to Cancer!

The Llamas we saw yesterday were so regal.  I’ve never been in the midst of llamas and the kids and I had so much fun.  We saw sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and dogs (I loved the dogs!) But with all those animals running around, there were no cats?  Oh yes, we also saw a buck, doe and fawn.  One doe was walking across the road in town.  The kids said we should not call the town Brookings but Doeings.

I’ve been working on the Camp Jacket I’m knitting the fronts at the same time on the same circular needles so they match.  It is going very fast and I actually think it will be completed, blocked and ready to wear when we go camping in August.  I must be stylish whilst camping!

It’s misting outside today so it will be a great day for socks.  I purchased some new Opal yarn yesterday and I can hardly wait to knit it up.  I also spent Saturday space dying 6 skeins for socks.  I asked KT what her favorite colors were and where to put the colors.  She said sky blue, cantaloupe and cranberry. Hmmmm, this should be interesting.

Finally, the garden is growing gang busters.  I need to thank my oldest son Jeff for all the hard work he did shoveling dirt, making raised beds and spreading gorilla bark.  After living here 16 years it was time to re-build my kitchen garden.  We had fresh red potatoes with garlic, onions and basil all picked fresh from the garden.  Nothing beats growing your own potatoes.  It is so easy.  If you don’t have a kitchen garden, just purchase a large bag of potting soil, poke holes in the bottom, stand it up in a sunny spot and stuff a couple potatoes down about 6″.  You’ll have potatoes growing inside the bag and green out the top.  When you’re ready to harvest, in about 60 days, just dump the soil in your garden and take out the potatoes!  Simple….just remember to water depending upon the weather!  Enjoy.

It’s Relay for Life time and I’ve vowed to raise $500 this year.  If you would like to donate to Relay For Life, you may go to my Personal Donation Page and do so.  You may also email me and I’ll send you my snail mail address or I also accept Pay Pal.  Remember, for each $10 donated, you will receive a chance to win 2 pair custom knitted socks in your shoe size.  This is a $40 value and I will let you choose the color and size.  So let’s do it!  Sock it to Cancer!

The hutch is complete.  Now it has to be moved to it’s final location and we’ll be ready to go.  MaMaMoo asked what the bunny’s name will be so….make some suggestions readers and we’ll pick the best one!  He is an Angora all white and as I’ve previously stated, big. I’ll get the specific breed when we pick him up.

Follow up on the large ‘gift’ of cone yarn.  I went through it, there appears to be several that are mixes but I kept out the best wool blends.  I noticed one cone that appeared to have some moth damage so I put the chosen cones into the freezer to kill any possible left-over moth activity.

Even if I don’t make socks from it I can at least use it as waste yarn between each sock.  So, all in all, I’m happy with receiving the free stuff.

The kids and I are on our way up to Brookings to purchase gas (It is $3.04 there and $3.39 here) and to visit Linda and her Llamas.  I think she will be shearing today and that will be fun to watch.  Plus we’ll get to see the sheep and those too cute dogs she has on her Web Site.

Finally I’ll be stopping by to purchase Opal to make, yes you guessed it, more socks!

Happy Monday!
