A very nice visit

We had a very nice overnight visit from the DD and #1 GD.

It was a great opportunity for her Uncle

and her Aunt to get some quality time.

Not to mention Papa and Mee Ma (that’s me!)

She is a very good baby, not fussy. They really are doing a wonderful job and everyone seems happy.

Circular Sock Machine Class

I’m teaching a CSM class in on October 24 & 25. It will be nice to meet new CSM fanatics users and get some me time.

Session 1 - One on one for an hour to adjust your machine

Session 2 - Make a tube, hang a hem, make a picot top, learn how to moc rib and make a hat

Session 3 - Put it all together, practice heels and toes and make a sock.

Eye Candy Friday

We call this the 50 foot meal. Veggies harvested from our kitchen garden, eggs from the chickens and ground lamb from our neighbor made into meatloaf. Ahhhh delicious!

Driver’s License? Good Luck!

What a pain life has become. Moving to a new state (Oregon) and having to get a new driver’s license has become an exercise in frustration and a test of my patience.

I got out my official ‘Lynette’s Stuff’ folder, filled out required paperwork, waited 45 minutes out side the DMV office for them to open. I was actually second in line so I thought (silly me) I would be in and out quickly with a OR drivers license.

Ha HA! the joke is on me and, apparently everyone else who is trying to get a drivers license. Thanks to idendity theft and basically all the jerks in the world it is now improbable that you will have all the paper work you need.

Birth Certificate? Yes, it is not the original but the micro printed one with the official embossed seal from the county I was born. They scanned it, and took a great deal of time to be sure it was ‘official’.

Marriage Certificate? Yup, but it was not the official one. I have to print out the forms, figure what county I was married in, get both of our ‘identities’ verified by presenting every piece of official paper we have with blood work from our first born child (just kidding). Mail the lot off to said county with a check foer $13 and wait up to 6 MONTHS for the returned Marriage Certificate. If I was married before 1947 and after 1986 in CA I could not get a copy for the state of CA for up to 18 months. Was there a fire? Flood? Earthquake (well that may actually have happened!)

Thank GOD I changed my name back to my maiden name after 1st marriage otherwise I would need:

Birth certificate, Marriage certificate, divorce papers, court certificate of my name change, death certificate of my now dead ex-husband, new marriage certificate.

Proof of residence - a bill mailed to me in my name.

Social Security Card. How many of us have our original social security card? I got mine when I was 14 in 1969. Since you cannot laminate them good luck actually finding one that has not been washed and still has enough fiber to hold together.

What has our world come to? I think I’ll just keep the CA driver’s license until it expires in 2009.

I’s the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Yes, the day is finally here. The first day of school. Since we’ve moved it is new schools for both kids. They are at the table right now, eating a sufficiently sugar laden breakfast to give my son in law a tooth ache. DJ is bugging KT, want some salt on your cereal? How about pepper, napkin.

KT says: LEAVE ME ALONE I’m freeking out!

Ahhhh, the sounds of school.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and it has been nice having them around this summer. They have been a huge help in moving. But I need to get back to my business. I have socks to make, shawls to knit, aprons to sew. I have two shows to prep for and am behind on my schedule.

School gives me the schedule I need to make progress. The free and easy timing of summer is a nice break but we all know life is scheduled, you get up, go to work, eat, go to bed and do it all over again.

Yes, I’m doing the happy dance because….IT IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

So much to do and

so little time. Has it been a week since I last posted? Is school really starting in just 7 days? Is summer almost over? Is tonight the closing ceremonies of the Olympics? Where has the time gone?

I have so much to do and so little time.

The canning started this week with 80 lbs of Glo Haven Peaches.

Probably the pears will come this week and tomatoes the following one. The potatoes are dug and tucked in their crates with shreded paper.

Socks, don’t even ask about that. I’ve decided to wait until the kids get back in school in a few days to get started on my inventory. I’ve been finishing up customer’s orders and shipping them out.

The kitties are doing fine. Here they are in their normal afternoon sleeping configuration.

We call this picture Ying/Yang.

With all that Black and white it is sometimes hard to see where one ends and the other begins!

Eye candy hummers

I really like humming birds. When we moved I was sorry that I was leaving behind a family of hummers that I had fed for 18 years. So I purchased a feeder and put it outside my office window. The first day I had one show up, second day two and yesterday three. It is amazing how fast they found the feeder. The kittties love sitting on the window ledge and watching the battle as the original humming bird defends her food. The other two have worked out a good plan of distraction so, in the end, everyone get a taste.

Yesterday the battle went on all day, you took your life in your own hands if you stepped outside onto the deck.

This morning it seems they are getting along.

Socks

Every Friday I will be putting up 3 pair of socks in my ETSY store for sale. Sometimes they will be specific sizes, other times they will be knit to your shoe size. Get those lists started….It’s time to start thinking Christmas!

Our ‘bank’ needs help!

No, not our financial bank but the ‘bank’ behind our house.

Ugly I know.

Last week I visited our local nursery and purchased loads of heather. I think this will work. Thanks a bunch go out to Rosie’s Backyard Nursery in Crescent City. They specialize in heather and are converting to natives. Bonus for me as I got 3 flats of overgrown unidentified heather to put on the bank. I think I’ll separate it as best I can and do kind of a patchwork look with blobs of color together. I also have my eye on some rosemary from a local resort. They will bet trimming it soon and have promised me to save some.

Just call me the salvage queen!

Life back to (semi) normal

My life, for the last 6 weeks has been, well, (abby) normal. With the packing, moving, contractor ‘conversations’, bank dealings and DH on 3 weeks vacation, I’ve really not felt settled.

Today is the DH’s first day back to work after what seemed like a very LOOOOOOng 3 weeks. But, he actually said this morning (at 5:30) that he really didn’t want to go back to work. That living up here gives the desire to stay home. This is a change as always before he has wanted to get back to work and not stay home.

Last the DS and I went for a quad drive looking for elk. The DH wanted to take a picture to work with him today showing the fellows that he was being serious about an elk herd right next to our property. But alas, we did not see any elk. As we were taking the senick route (read the long way) home the thought flashed into my mind that the logger has seen several Black Bear in the area. In fact it is Bear hunting season. So we stopped and I told the 13 year old son that if we came upon a bear to either 1. turn around fast the get out of there or, if we cannot turn around 2. put the quads in high and drive right past as fast as possible.

Kitty Bliss

Our two kittens are seeming to become more interested in us. Saturday they plopped down beside KT as though she was their mom and took their afternoon 2 hour nap.

Garden update. It has been a frustration for my friend LS to grow her garden this year. She is trying to grow a large garden on previously logged land. To complicate matters, she is going totally organic. So there is no quick fix for poor soil. Yesterday she called all excited about getting 20 yards of composted cow Poo Poo delivered from our local organic dairy. How many people do you know who get excited about Cow Poo Poo?

Knitting, socks, vending and Rainy Day Yarn Club

Now that life is back to semi-normal for me I can get back into a routine. During the day I knit socks, finish them at night and ship out the order(s) the next day. Sometimes in the evening I work on the Mystery Shawl that I’ve been knitting on for about a year. I’m almost done.
